Just because its summer, doesn’t mean reading should take a vacation too. There are SO many amazing topics to read about during the summertime… camping, the beach, ice cream. Summer is a great time to visit your local library to discover some new books. So today I’m sharing my top favorite summer read alouds for kindergartners during the summer months!

This book is perfect for the beginning of summer or counting down until the last day of school. This story would be the perfect kick-off to a cute summer bucket list craft!

This story is one of Natasha Wing’s “The Night Before…” series. I love reading these for different holidays during the year and this one is no different! This book would be perfect to read before leaving for your own family vacation this summer. I love helping my own boys make a packing list after reading the story together.

Books About the Beach

Another one of my favorite series are the Turkey books by Wendi Silvano. This book is about a turkey trying to disguise himself in order to enjoy his day at the beach. Definitely will keep adults and children entertained!

This adorable book is perfect for siblings or classmates who need a reminder on how fun it is to work together! Your kids will love reading about a super cool sandcastle and learning a lesson about working as a team.

This book is perfect for animal lovers. Kids will love getting to see the different types of footprints that animals make in the sand. There is also a bit at the end with real photographs of the animals included in the book.

Books About Camping

If you are going camping this summer or have a camping theme day in your countdown to summer, this book is an absolute must! There is everything from camping equipment to locations included in the story and a bit of information about the topics for each letter.

I am a sucker for a good Froggy book – even when I was a kid! – and this one is no different. Froggy will keep your kids entertained with his usual antics at summer camp.

Books About Summertime Treats

The little girl in the story serves more than just neighborhood kids in this book! This book would be perfect for inspiring young entrepreneurs to open their own lemonade stand.

What is better than ice cream on a hot summer day? Maybe this book! The animals in this story have some interesting ice cream requests and are confused when Gorilla wants just vanilla.

Our reading curriculum actually includes a story about Frank Epperson, the inventor of the popsicle, so I include this in my read alouds when we get to that story. But I think this story is perfect for a summer day! Students love learning about the young inventor and getting to make their own popsicles!

I hope you have found some more books to add to your summer collection. I’d love to hear which was your favorite below!
