This book is just what the title says, too cute! This story is not only perfect for the month of October, it also has a wonderful message about how it’s okay to be different.

Creepy Carrots by Aaron Reynolds

Whenever I read this book to my class I always set the mood by turning out the lights and using a flashlight. This story will definitely get some giggles out of your students. If they enjoy this one, you have to read Creepy Pair of Underwear and Creepy Crayon next!

Pete the Cat: Five Little Pumpkins by James Dean

What kindergartner doesn’t like Pete the Cat? This books follows the classic poem 5 Little Pumpkins with fun Pete the Cat illustrations.

Too Many Pumpkins by Linda White

Your class will loving finding out what happens when the character in the story hates pumpkins and smashes one in her yard! It has fun illustrations and also a good lesson about helping others.

Pumpkin Jack by Will Hubbell

This story is a classic for learning about the pumpkin life cycle. My students love how this reads like a story but you also get to learn how a pumpkin grows. I use this as a read aloud before completing my pumpkin life cycle craft. The spinning wheel is always a hit with my class!

How Big Could Your Pumpkin Grow? by Wendell Minor

Do you take a field trip to the pumpkin patch each fall? We are fortunate enough to live in an area with several pumpkin farms and they are pretty famous for growing very large pumpkins! My class loves seeing the giant pumpkins each fall and it’s part of our pumpkin patch scavenger hunt that we complete while we are on the field trip. Grab your FREE scavenger hunt HERE!

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat by Lucille Colandro

I am a sucker for the Old Lady series. I read them for just about every holiday and season, and my class never gets sick of them! If you need a follow-up activity with your read aloud check out this retelling craft here! This is the perfect little activity to practice retelling skills while also celebrating Halloween!

Bo the Bat by Alma Hammond

This book is absolutely adorable and has such a good message. Bo the Bat just wants to be everyone’s friend but the children are scared of him. This book is perfect for starting a discussion on how bats are not a scary animal, but also on accepting others.

Halloween is Coming! by Cal Everett

This read aloud has wonderful, inclusive illustrations. After listening to the story your class will love pointing out the similarities and signs they have also seen letting them know Halloween is almost here!
