If you’re teaching your apple unit in your classroom, I have some wonderful resources you won’t want to miss! Read on to see some of my favorite apple literacy resources and how I use them in my own kindergarten classroom!
Apple Beginning Sound Centers
This apple themed center is perfect for the beginning of the year when you’re likely to be teaching about apples! I let my students use bingo chips or a dauber to find all things that begin with the matching sound.
I love doing this activity to reinforce the sounds we have done in class as a whole group or in small groups.
I like the black and white option for individual work, but laminating the color version to use with small groups!
Apple Literacy Activity Set
This set of apple literacy activities is just right for the beginning of kindergarten! There are three activities included!
I love the emergent reader for students. This gives me a chance to work on book skills and tracking print. I can also introduce a few sight words to my students that are ready and we review color words from our beginning of the year color unit!
We do an apple tasting each year and it’s always a HUGE hit! Afterwards we write about which apple we liked the best. I usually use the tracing version, but I have a couple kiddos each year that are able to use the blank version.
The apple maze is a fun activity to do during phonics. I love to do the letter A in phonics and my apple week at the same time. It just makes it so much fun. Regardless, kids will love searching for the letter A in this apple maze!
Apple Life Cycle Craft
You really can’t teach an apple unit without teaching the life cycle of an apple. Kindergartners love learning about how a tiny seed can turn into a big apple tree! This life cycle craft is going to be a hit!
I usually introduce the life cycle with this book How Do Apples Grow? by Betsy Maestro. It is jam-packed of information and new vocabulary words.
Then we complete the life cycle craft. The wheel spins around to allow students to show one part of the life cycle at a time and is SO much more engaging that your typical cut and paste worksheet.
Color by the Code
These apple color by letters are perfect for kindergarten! Work on letter recognition and coloring skills.
We do SO many color by codes in my classroom and this is a great introduction to it. Even better – these are FREE!

I hope you enjoy these apple literacy activities as much as my students and I do!
